🇹🇳 Solar Calculator Tunisia
Enter your monthly STEG bill and governorate — get solar system size, PROSOL government subsidy (up to 30% for ≤3kWp), STEG net metering income, and payback period.
How to Use This Calculator
Enter your STEG bill and governorate
Enter your average monthly STEG (Société Tunisienne de l'Electricité et du Gaz) electricity bill in Tunisian dinars. The calculator uses a blended STEG retail rate of TND 0.30/kWh — actual rates are tiered from TND 0.20/kWh for low consumption to TND 0.40/kWh for high usage. Select your governorate to use accurate peak sun hours (PSH): Tozeur in the Sahara desert receives 6.2 PSH, while Bizerte in the north gets around 5.0 PSH.
Set system size and PROSOL status
Select your system size in kWp. Enable the PROSOL toggle if you plan to apply for Tunisia's government solar subsidy program — PROSOL provides up to 30% off the installed cost for residential systems up to 3kWp. The program is administered by ANME (Agence Nationale pour la Maîtrise de l'Énergie) and requires a STEG-approved installer.
STEG net metering
All surplus solar electricity is credited back to your STEG account at the retail tiered tariff under Tunisia's net metering scheme. Unlike some countries with lower feed-in tariffs, Tunisia's 1:1 retail net metering means exported kWh are as valuable as self-consumed kWh — simplifying the economics considerably.
The Formula
Tunisia's solar regulatory framework is governed by Loi n° 2015-12 on electricity production from renewable energy. The net metering decree allows residential and commercial prosumers to offset their STEG consumption with solar generation at retail tariff rates. Tunisia's PROSOL program, launched in 2005, is one of the oldest solar subsidy programs in the Arab world and has installed over 100 MW of residential solar capacity.
Example
Ahmed — Sfax villa, 8kWp
Ahmed pays TND 200/month for his villa in Sfax. He installs an 8kWp system without PROSOL (above 3kWp limit).
Result
Sfax's 5.5 PSH yields around 1,610 kWh/kWp/yr — significantly better than most of Europe. Tunisia's full retail net metering means there's no penalty for excess production, making larger systems more viable.
